When library and media centers purchase books, they expect to receive a disc of MARC Records with each book order. Now they are extending the requirement to all media products purchased for school use. So if your clients are asking for MARC records, you’ve come to the right place. Our marc4media records exceed the demands of the most discerning schools, those who want immediate, detailed on-line access to information about titles they purchase from you.

Not any description will do when it comes to aligning the appropriate resource to teaching or learning outcomes. The more details that are provided, the greater the possibility that your product will get into the right hands and increase demand for similar or related products.

What packages are available?
When we act as your MARC record supplier, we charge a set fee to catalog each resource. The charge for this service is the lowest when your website gives a full, sequential description of each title and also lists accurate details about producers, on-screen copyright dates, and related teaching materials. The most expensive is when you ship to us; we view and/or analyze each resource and prepare the marc4media record from our direct observations of all components. In this case, the distributor pays for all shipping charges.

Database Ownership and marc4media sales:
All marc4media records created for educational distributors remain a part of the copyrighted marc4media database. Acting as your MARC record supplier, we charge $2.00 per sale of each marc4media record created with your financial support and encouragement. Without this support, the charge is $4.00 per sale of each marc4media record. Once the record has been created, school clients can order directly from this site.

Telephone Support:
Telephone support for schools that need assistance with any part of the ordering process is included in the sale of each marc4media record. Also included, is telephone assistance for clients who need help when it comes to importing the records into their library automation systems.

Barcode Labels and Shelving Labels:
Once the marc4media record has been created, we offer optional services for schools that also require barcode and shelving labels for product cases. The on-line order form asks for barcode sequences and automation system details so that each record can be configured for the system and with the assigned barcode number. Then the labels are printed and shipped along with the disc of records. The additional charge for this service is 50 cents per record plus $5.00 shipping and handling for each shipment.

Optional Services:
If you would like to handle marc4media orders in house, we will create a Profile Sheet for you. It will ask for the same information required by our on-line order form. When one of your clients requests marc4media records, the form can be faxed to them. When it is returned, we ask you to fax it to us along with a copy of their order for your product. We ship discs and labels directly to the client and invoice you once a month.

SERVICES FOR SCHOOL LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTERS:
Our order department will fulfill any request for any media title you need to have cataloged. With a database of over 30,000 marc4media records, chances are we have previously cataloged the title. If not, we will do the necessary research to create the first ‘golden’, marc4media record.

Our resources include a working relationship with an ever-increasing number of educational distributors who regularly ship their products to us for review and cataloging. Distributors have supplemented the cost of creating marc4media records for their titles so we are able to provide those records for $2.00 instead of $4.00 each. A drop-down box on the on-line order form allows you to select by distributor to get the best rate for marc4media records.

If your favorite distributor is not on our list, please encourage them to contact us for cataloging services. We have a company goal to provide central ordering for all media products so that individual schools do not have to hunt for a needle in a haystack when it comes to ordering MARC records for educational media.

To obtain marc4media, simply fill in the on-line order form. In addition to shipping addresses, etc, we need the name of your automation system and special instructions if you use location or shelving codes such as VID, VHS etc. As an optional service, we also provide barcode labels and labels for media cases. If you assign a barcode range for your marc4media order, we will add barcode numbers to each record before shipping the disc. SERVICES FOR REGIONAL MEDIA CENTERS:
Now that media reservation software utilizes MARC records, purchasing marc4media can be the answer to clearing backlogs of uncataloged materials in Regional Media Centers and Area Education Offices. With the assistance of Library Conversions Limited Company, we are also able to provide full retrospective conversion services to marc4media. When a retrospective conversion is performed, every item in a central media collection is given the marc4media treatment to achieve maximum and consistent on-line access to all resources within each center.

In connection with marc4media for Regional Media Centers, we are engaged in several projects to replace non-standard subject headings in existing online catalogs, with terminology that is more universally accepted. Related projects involve using a marc4media database in a reservation system and contributing the same database to district and state union catalogs. Large or small School Districts can contract for marc4media services for the schools within their districts. Since the requirements vary so greatly from one district to the next, we ask District Reps. to phone or E-mail for contract pricing. As in Consortium Group buys the advantage is to order the same group of records for all schools in the district.

RETROSPECTIVE CONVERSION SERVICES:
Through our relationship with Library Conversions Limited Company, we are also able to provide full conversion services of book and media collections. For over 8 years, Library Conversions has operated on-site in school media centers and in the past three years, added shelf list conversions to their list of services. Their database for print materials tops 400,000 records. With marc4media at over 30,000, a comprehensive program is available for all school clients: individual schools, Regional Media Centers, and District Media centers.
